President's Message For AprilLast month's lecture by Dan Harlan was one for the books - a true legend giving advice on performance and techniques - I certainly was blown away by the information (and I even bought an ice cream scoop!). This month we have a lecture that has been decades in the making - the history of Al Baker, and why our assembly is named after him. Thanks to Joe Que, we'll be learning so much about what made this gentleman a true master magician. I even hear that some members will be performing Al Baker effects! As usual the meeting will start at 7:30 pm, and if you're hungry, dinner at 6! See you on Tuesday April 8th.

Notes from last month's meeting - Darryl Bielski
For our March meeting, we had the extreme pleasure of welcoming Mr. Dan Harlan to our little burgh. He brought with him his wealth of knowledge, in-sight and thinking for which he is known. He started off with a "professors's nightmare" routine, but with a different presentation from what one normally sees. He then went into a routine where the marker that he was using began writing in different colors. One of his words of wisdom was that you should build up the moment when "the work" is done, and you're left with the presentation of the reveal. This way you're making it that much more magical for your audience. From there he went into card effects, borrowed a ring which changed into a quarter, wound up inside a ball of yarn, inside a box, among other things. He also showed us a very useful use for an ice cream scooper. He performed a "missing sock" routine with its antecedent harking back to the Tarbell course. He also stressed that it's important to make a connection with your audience. They'll care more about what you're doing if they also care more about you. Thank you Dan for a great and informative evening!

Great lecture coming up:
Dear Magi, I am proud to announce that Gregory Wilson will be lecturing on Wednesday April 30th at 7 pm. The location will be at the Slovak Club at 49 Lockwood Avenue Yonkers NY. This will be his ONLY lecture in the NY, NJ, CT, PA area. Gregory Wilson is a 2 time FIsm award winner. There is something for everyone in this lecture. Tickets are $45 each. All sales final. This lecture will sell out. You can pay by venmo at MagicDaveFerst or in person in cash. We are looking for a fun filled night with lots of amazing magic. Gregory Wilson hasn't been on the lecture tour circuit since 2018 and it's been even longer since he's lectured in the Northeast. During that time, he continued to refine, hone, and perfect some of the most commercial magic that magicians can carry. He calls this new tour, "Thing I Carry And Use 2.0". Some of the material may seem familiar, but he has some new twists that are worth your time and attention. There will be plenty of new things too. See you there. Spread the word. Live the dream. If you have any questions please email me at magicdave@aol.com.
