President’s Words

Howdy y’all!  This month our meeting will be on Halloween magic - bring those effects that you perform for this spooky holiday season. I will be providing confectionary treats to all those who attend!

I want to welcome Sudhir as our new secretary for the club!  Thank you Sudhir!

As I discussed last meeting, throughout this year we want to start having members who don’t normally perform pick an effect they would like to do, and we’ll be working on it together throughout the year - our idea working up to a 5-10 minute effect that you can present - we’ll then have a show highlighting those members!

On November 12th they’re holding Super Sunday (formally known as Bob Little’s Super Sunday) - I’ve included a flier if you want to attend.  It’s always a blast, and you can pick up some great items (really cheaply) at their annual auction.  It’s only $45 for the whole day

Ryan, Frank, and I are also planning on going to MagicLive August 4-7th 2024,  in Las Vegas..  If you’ve never been, it’s a magical experience like no other.  Not only are there amazing lectures and shows, but there is one of the greatest dealer rooms to be found (plan on bringing an empty suitcase!).  We’ll talk about it more at the meeting next- it would be awesome to have an Assembly 35 group there!

See you on Tuesday October 10th - and yes, if you want dinner, we’ll be getting together around 6 pm.

Halloween magic

Last Month

This evening we began our new season of lectures. We couldn't have picked a better one than by having Bill Wisch. Mr. Wisch was a longtime student of Slydini, and is also the only student that was authorized by Slydini to present his material.

Bill began the evening with the Helicopter effect, where the volunteer mixes the cards, but yet the card that was picked out winds  up on top of the deck on the table. He regales us with a story of how he was the first person in his kindergarten class to be able to tie his shoes, in conjunction with his tying knots in a rope that eventually vanished. Now, whether that story is true or not, one story that he told that was true was how he began lecturing for Slydini in January of 1976,

Bill also showed us some of his original effects, proving that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. He also talked about timing, misdirection and psychology, which should always be considered when picking out which effects you will be doing for your audience to maximize their entertainment. It was our esteemed pleasure to hear and see Mr. Wisch present us his lecture!
