President’s Words
Welcome to summer! Our last meeting before the summer break will be on Tuesday June 13th at 7:30 pm. It will be a “works in progress” and “what you want to work on for the summer” meeting - plus we will have a grab bag for each one of you filled with cards, etc. thanks to Sam Patton’s estate. Of course we’ll be getting together for dinner at 6 pm if you can make it. Also a reminder that Sunday August 27th will be our annual bbq - we’ll be talking about it at the meeting.
The main event will be June 30th, July 1st, and July 2nd at the Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck for our assembly show. It’s been several years since we’ve had an event like this - this is how we build our coffers to offer you lectures and magical happenings throughout the year. It’s imperative that we all promote this as much as possible to the public, friends, and family. I’ll have posters for you at the meeting that you can put up. You can also blast it out on social media - the more people that see it, the more successful the Assembly will be!

Last Meeting - Lecture by Bruce Kalver
Our recent meeting afforded us the opportunity for a lecture by the illustrious Bruce Kalver. His grandfather built illusions for Houdini. Mr. Kalver started off with the spinning spiral effect,. Check out the "aristotle effect" on-line. After some minor coaching from Mr. Kalver, President Joel Zaritsky, assisted by Frank Monaco, was able to ascertain the exact numbers on a $5 bill. Along with making tricks for Houdini, Bruce's grandfather also taught him the linking rings. Bruce showed us a move that looks really clean to go along with the rings. Bruce offered up another effect which he does "blindfolded." He starts off with 2 cards in his glasses, which turn out to be the 2 cards that were picked by Jackie Reynolds and Shane. Bruce also told us of his job as a creative pro at Apple. Yes, it is interesting. Bruce also showed us his way of marking a deck, so that you don't need a magnifying glass to see it. Those of us with glasses certainly appreciate this! If you get nothing else out of this report, be sure to check out the "aristotle triangle" with regards to speaking to people. It may be really old advice, but it's still good advice. Thank you Bruce for an entertaining lecture!
