President’s Words

HHi everyone!  Our next meeting will be Tuesday, February 21st, due to our regular meeting night lands on Valentine’s Day. This month we’ve got a two-part meeting - First, live from Florida, Magic Marty will be beaming in via zoom to talk about a bag-o-tricks that he’s fabricated for the club to raise money to visit the Houdini Museum in Scranton, Pennsylvania.   Magic Marty Steinberg has made up two sets of mirror tricks and routines for the Zoom instruction. The kit you'll get for $20 includes two mirrors, a paddle and instructions.  The $20 will go towards your ticket to the Houdini Museum this spring.  Imagine, 1000 miles away in Florida Marty will be making the tricks, teaching the tricks and donating the money to the club.  Thank you Marty, you are missed.

Second, we’ll be discussing your EDC (every day carry) cases - and what you put into them - bring your items for show and tell!  As usual the meeting will start at 7:30 pm, and if you’re hungry we’ll be meeting at 6 for dinner.  See you then!

Last Meeting - Mentalism for adults and children

The new year is upon us with a night devoted to mentalism to entertain people of all ages.  Our lecture this evening was presented by S. Patrick Toman.  The evening began with an effect called Sedentaquin, with the assistance of Frank Monaco. 2 piles of 12 cards each was used, and at the end the only cards from both piles were a match of the card that Frank had picked before.  Steve Johnson helped out with an effect named El Numero, a jumbo card set with ESP symbols on them.  Another set was hidden inside an envelope, but despite that, Steve was able to pick out the correct symbol.  Things were getting spooky now.  Ryan Dutcher helped with a presentation of 2 piles of cards with words on them.  They were able to be switched about, and then placed into a plastic sign holder.  Despite the cards being mixed, all 5 words were matched at the end.  Of course the book "
13 Steps to Mentalism" by Corinda was mentioned, specifically a trick called The 3rd Choice.  If you have the book but haven't looked at it in awhile, then look this one up.  S. Patrick also talked about doing mentalism for kids, a topic of which most people do not think would be possible.  S. Patrick says that it is. Presentation is key here.  He also talked about a book by Paul Romhany, "Performing Mentalism for Young Minds."  Willie Yee helped out with The Gift, where a gift is inside a paper bag.  Several people write down what they think it is, along with Ryan writing down a possible price, and with the help of a devil's handkerchief, it all worked out.  Nadine Zaritsky helps to close out the evening, where she is able to pick out the only other color in a bag of LED lights, where all the other ones are the same color.  Well done Nadine!  It was a good way to start off the new year.  Can't wait until next month!
